Our Philosophy There is nothing more satisfying and fulfilling for children than to be able to express themselves openly and safely, without judgment or strict rules. Our program respects the individuality of each child, seeing him or her as a child first and as a child with special needs second. We believe that by respecting the uniqueness of individual children, finding joy in their interests and meeting them at their developmental levels, a relationship built on trust and mutual understanding is created with each child. Allowing children to feel comfortable at being themselves is the foundation for self confidence in relating to others. Once this stable relationship is nurtured and sustained, slowly, specific social and language skills can be introduced. Although greater demands may be placed on the child at this time, we continue to respect the child's individual differences and celebrate his or her uniqueness. Me and My Friends strives to give children the tools needed for social independence and the freedom to be themselves. |
